What's hAPPening in Chemistry

What's hAPPening SCARTIES!

We are the Strathclyde Chemistry App Review Team (you can call us SCART) and we are here to give reviews on all the leading chemistry apps. We consist of 3 chemistry undergrads from the University of Strathclyde ~ so we know our stuff.

We have collated information from students, teachers and researchers to create the perfect list of criteria to review chemistry apps so you don't have to!

We have chosen to create a blog to review chemistry apps because it is an easily accessible format for everyone to read. Each app review will be published as a separate post and these posts will be categorised by the functions of each app where we will outline our recommendations regarding who should use the app. From this all the apps for the relevant function, level or field of chemistry can be searched within our blog to find an app that best meets their needs.

Criteria

1. Ease of use /5
- Is the app laid out well? Is it simple to use? Does it cater for disability support? Can a 1st year undergrad use it easily?(if they can, anyone can)

2. Accessibility /5
- How much does it cost? How much storage space does it require? Is it available on both platforms?

3. Graphics /5
- Is it aesthetically pleasing? Colourful? Easy to read?

4. App Performance /5
- Is it up to date? Are there any glitches? Discrepancies between performance on different platforms? Does it run slow?

5. Content /5
- Is the content accurate? How much content is there? Does the app link content to real life examples? Does the content align with any specific curriculum?

6. Relevance /5
- Can the app be used effectively for it's intended purpose?

7. User Reviews   /5
- The average score provided by user reviews on the relevant platforms

8. SCART score   /5
- Overall rating from ourselves

Devices

To gain a fair perspective and be able to provide a more accurate review of the apps, four different devices have been used to test the apps; iPhone X (iOS 12.1), iPhone 8 (iOS 12.1), Honor 8X (Andriod 8.1) and iPad mini (iOS 10?) However, your experiences may vary! We unfortunately don't have the time or funds to test the apps on every device available *cough* sponsor us Apple *cough*.

We will give our general thoughts at the end of each post briefly justifying our opinions and giving a recommendation as to who we think would benefit most from the app.
We know that it is difficult to give an overall recommendation of an app in one blog post but we have tried to be as thorough as possible with our rating system. Please remember these are also just our opinions and if you have anything to contribute please leave us a comment!

Lots of Love,

SCART x
