Chemistry

Hey SCARTies! Here is our first app review to get you through those monday blues💙
Enjoy!

Chemistry

Available on iOS and Android
Free

This app has options to search for some well known equations of simple molecules along with lists of electronegativities of atoms, solubilities of ions, strength/pKa of acids and more. There is also a feature which allows you to calculate molecular mass of any given molecule and an added periodic table feature with links to Wikipedia pages for elements.

5. Content    ⭐⭐⭐

6. Relevance    ⭐⭐⭐

7. User Reviews   4.5/5

SCART notes: The purpose of this app is a bit unclear initially but the tab feature makes it easier to navigate and explore its different functions. The graphics are pretty poor, its clear there hasn’t been a lot of time spent making it look aesthetically pleasing as the interface is very basic. Despite this, the different functions of the app seem to work well and the app can cope with information for more complex molecules. The function for searching reaction equations is super helpful as very little input is required to produce a myriad of balanced equations/info. However, content is relatively unoriginal, there are lots of apps available with the same sort of information in a similar format. Its also worth noting that although the user reviews on the Apple app store give a 4.5/5 rating, this is only based on 8 user reviews.

SCART recommendations: Undergraduate students and researchers may find it handy to use as molecular weights can be calculated quickly and the information is provided in an easy to read/compare format.

SCART score:    ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Lots of Love

Separate explanations could be provided to cater for students who require a different way to look at fundamental ideas. In saying this, the app is extremely useful for its intended purpose – revision for GCSE Chemistry students. The notes are very clearly laid out in a logical way and are colourful...

Periodic Table by RSC

Periodic Table by RSC Available on Apple and Android devices Free Periodic Table is an app created by the Royal Society of Chemistry which provides detailed information and interesting facts about each element in a compact, easy to use format. The scope of content included on each element is detailed and laid out in a modern and aesthetically pleasing app. The app however has some flaws which make it more difficult to use than other periodic table apps such as 'Periodic' (which has been reviewed already - go check it out!) where the app can be used in landscape...

Chemtrix

Chemtrix Available on Apple devices Chemtrix is an exciting molecule building game app which as you work through the 24 levels you learn more about how atoms bond and the structures and properties of the molecules that you make. Screenshots Screen Recording Criteria E ase of Us e – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Accessibility – ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Graphics – ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐⭐ Performance – ⭐ ⭐ ⭐⭐⭐ Content – ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Relevance – ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ User Reviews – 4.5 / 5 SCART notes: We have found this app to be a very fun and addictive game to have on your phone. With its simplistic yet effective layout and its speedy boot up and performance speeds it is far from a nuisance to mess about with. Although it thrives in these aspects of the app, it falls short in the scope and depth of content involved. The levels do get harder from the start and the app does introduce more complex organic molecules however we feel there is a point in this app where the difficulty d...
